High School Student Leaders Grant $6,500 to 10 Brazos Valley Nonprofits

The United Way Youth Leadership Cabinet is hosting its annual Community Builders Grant Celebration virtually this year to present 10 Brazos Valley nonprofits with grant checks totaling $6,500.

Throughout the school year, the Youth Leadership Cabinet, composed of student leaders from seven Bryan College Station high schools, raised over $12,176 through various fundraisers, including pass the bucket at local high school football games, their United We Serve profit share with DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks and Christmas gift wrapping.

Of the funds raised, $5,676 were donated to the Brazos Valley Covid-19 Community Relief Fund to support the many small businesses and nonprofits in the local area who are struggling during the Covid-19 response efforts.

In May, the Youth Leadership Cabinet students reviewed the applications and made funding decisions. Every student reviewed the grants on their own and then met via Zoom to discuss funding for each grant applicant. Each grant is awarded up to $1,000 for programs working to make an impact in the areas of health, education and financial stability in the Brazos Valley.

Nonprofits selected for 2020 Community Builders Grants include:

  • Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach
  • Brazos Valley School of Inquiry and Creativity
  • Catholic Charities of Central Texas
  • Family Promise of Bryan-College Station
  • Grimes Health Resource Center
